We have desiged and collaborated with many different experts out there. we also throughout the years have owned many different brands of pickups through the era’s of being a working player. As one with experience in many sides of the music industry, ALL respect to my fellow coil winders.. Through the sonic journey chasiing a very clear sound in my head. Some of these legacy pickups are kept and revisited, Because the player side, will always have a nostalgia for an era of tone to recall. None of these are referenced to be incorporated in to our designs. But Throughout the years whether an era of building/designing at Keith Hollands Guitar Hospital, or proprietary projects at ESP Guitars. Personal seeking of a sound inside of the mind, was the drive to push the bar. And that is what happened. Necessity is the mother of invention, and every pickup set, had 1 problem in common. From boutique vintage, to a modern set. The neck pickup was an absolute subwoofer compared to this supposedly strong bridge pickup. At first I checked the position of the humbucker placement on many guitars, and on custom strats built for the personal Flydate/Session Guitarsenal. There was a signature already happening. Each Humbucker had a specific distance, and was slanted. Some were lined up with the pole pieces, other prototypes made werent. But they picked up EVERY note with excelence, class and clarity. Not a fluctuation betweem strings. We knew we had something here as with camera experience, the pickup became more of an aperture, or was passing the barrier wall, pickup up everything within the path. Other pickups placed under with a say 53mm to accomodate the slant and wide spacing, had the same effect. All we had to do was adjust the turn count to match. Not necessarily going by DCR, But also matching the Record breaking inductance readings as well. Inductance is the Horsepower of pickups. And that Anomaly which has been peer reviewed by several decorated engineers in many fields. In short we just say “You have a VERY efficient coil”. We all know just like a great company, it all starts at the top. From there many details have been analyzed and even a 1 of a kind winder has been introduced as a future patent to put a new spin on an old technology.
